British Eventing has confirmed that 37-year-old event rider Georgie Campbell has died after falling from her horse at the Bicton International Horse Trials in Devon on Sunday.

"Medical professionals attended immediately following her fall at fence 5b however, unfortunately, she could not be saved," the governing body said in a statement.

"The horse, Global Quest, was assessed by the on-site vets and walked back to the stable and is uninjured. To respect the family's privacy at this extremely difficult and sad time, no further details will be shared."

British equestrian star Campbell competed in over 200 events, including the five-star events Badminton and Burghley, achieving six victories. She was married to fellow event rider Jesse Campbell, who represents New Zealand.

According to a spokesperson, the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust reported being called to an incident near Budleigh Salterton at 15:00 on Sunday. Global Quest was uninjured and, after being assessed by on-site vets, was walked back to the stable.

Campbell began riding at the age of two, taught by her mother Debbie, a former GB endurance rider, in Kent. Initially, she excelled as a top-level showing rider before transitioning to eventing.

As a teenager, she was shortlisted for the British junior team and made her five-star debut in 2009. Campbell quickly advanced in her career, representing Great Britain multiple times on Nations Cup teams. In 2010, she won the prize for the highest-placed rider under 25 in the British Open at Gatcombe.

Horse and Hound reports that Global Quest, an 11-year-old horse, partnered with Campbell throughout her eventing career. The Bicton International Horse Trials spanned four days, running from Thursday to Sunday.
