Gobinath Sivaraja, Media Manager of the Sri Lanka National Olympic Committee, was arrested by the Katunayake Airport Police last Monday, 27 May, while attempting to travel to Dubai on a flight from Kuwait, despite a travel ban imposed in connection with a fraud case involving the Sri Lanka National Olympic Committee.

Following the arrest, the 39-year-old suspect, who is being investigated by local authorities for forgery, fraud and corruption, was handed over to the Colombo Fraud Investigation Bureau. Meanwhile, the police spokesman said that the suspect was remanded in custody until 5 June.

Gobinath Sivaraja is a suspect in a case involving the secretary of the National Olympic Committee, Maxwell de Silva, in connection with an alleged fraud that is currently under investigation and is also linked to other individuals. As such, he was arrested while attempting to travel abroad on official business to Europe with another NOCSL member.

Despite being the media manager of the NOCSL, Gobinath Sivarajah was also involved in two controversial sports bodies,Teqball (project manager) and Dance Sport (secretary), which were recently banned along with winter sports. The controversies surrounding these sports bodies are due to NOCSL officials joining and creating such bodies, siphoning off money from international bodies and local sponsors.
