Paris Saint-Germain has not paid Kylian Mbappe his wages for April, along with a substantial bonus, amid a financial dispute with the player, AFP were informed by a source on Wednesday. The 25-year-old is set to leave PSG this summer and join Spanish champions Real Madrid.

According to the source, PSG's choice to withhold Mbappe's salary is linked to an arrangement reached between both parties last year, at the onset of the season. During this agreement, the player agreed to relinquish a portion of his owed bonus.

Nonetheless, as per the source, discussions between the club and the France captain were described as "amicable," with optimism for "a favourable resolution." However, a separate source contacted by AFP revealed that the French champions had also opted against disbursing a bonus owed to Mbappe, who previously won France's Player of the Year award.

This brings the total amount in question to approximately €80 million, aligning with figures disclosed by French news outlet L'Equipe. The identical source indicated that the club had chosen to withhold the payments without prior notification to Mbappe and without reaching an agreement between the involved parties.

Mbappe's contract is set to expire on 30 June, and he has officially announced his departure from PSG after a seven-year tenure, with Real Madrid expected to be his next destination. Earlier this year, both parties acknowledged that Mbappe had agreed to forgo a significant portion of a substantial bonus owed to him, as part of his reinstatement to the PSG squad after being sidelined at the start of the season.

The total value of these waived bonuses, estimated by a club insider, ranges between €60-€70 million. This decision was perceived as a gesture to assist PSG in recouping funds, given that they will not receive a transfer fee for the French forward upon his departure. However, another source claimed that Mbappe, who is expected to play for his country at the Paris 2024 Olympics, did indeed receive the bonus in February.

Mbappe inked his latest contract with PSG in 2022, a two-year agreement valued at approximately €72 million before taxes. Moreover, this contract included a staggering signing-on fee of €150 million, disbursed in three instalments, along with loyalty bonuses of €70 million for the initial year and €80 million for the subsequent year.

Additionally, he would have been entitled to an extra €90 million had he opted to extend his stay for a third year, as per reports from Le Parisien.
