Kerry, succeeding Ed Barney, previously served as performance director from 2012 to 2016. During this tenure, he also assumed the role of women’s head coach following Jason Lee's departure after the World Cup that year.

The national governing body emphasised Kerry's "established history of nurturing elite athletes," deeming him the optimal choice to lead the program, slated to commence in September. 

Previously, Kerry held the role of head coach for England and GB women from 2005-2012 and 2014-2018, and as men’s head coach from 2018 until early 2022.

"I am really proud and looking forward to be able to join the performance team at England and GB Hockey again," said the 53-year-old, who was recently the head coach of the Canada's women's team, before leaving after the Paris Olympic qualifiers in January.

"The sport has seen amazing growth over the last 16 years, and I look forward to working with the many people and bodies that underpin our international teams, athletes and our great sport."
