In a momentous upset at the T20 World Cup, the USA clinched a thrilling Super Over victory against Pakistan in Texas. After both teams posted 159 runs in their allotted 20 overs at Grand Prairie Stadium, the game proceeded to an extra over.

In a remarkable turn of events, tournament co-hosts and debutants USA managed to score 14 runs in the final over, matching Pakistan's total and forcing the match into a tiebreaker. Taking the first bat in the Super Over, the USA intensified the pressure on their opponents by accumulating 18 runs for the loss of one wicket. Aaron Jones contributed 11 runs before being run out, while seven runs were obtained through extras.

Iftikhar Ahmed guided Pakistan to five runs without any loss off three deliveries before he was superbly caught by Nitish Kumar near the boundary. Despite USA bowler Saurabh Netravalkar's efforts, Pakistan managed to reach a total of 13 runs for the loss of one wicket. After securing a seven-wicket victory over Canada in their opening match last Sunday, Group A leaders USA are now well-positioned to advance to the Super 8s round. The top two teams from each of the four groups will move on to the last eight of the tournament.

"Beating Pakistan, and playing for the first time, the way we played today I'm really proud of the boys," said Monank Patel, the captain of USA and recipient of the official player of the match award.

"It was a complete team effort from first ball until the last ball. Winning the toss, we made sure that we utilised the conditions and credit to the bowlers. They kept them under 160 and we knew that 160 was chaseable target."

Pakistan captain Babar Azam bemoaned his side's batting performance. "We didn't capitalise with the bat and they took a lot of momentum," he said. "We lost back-to-back wickets in the middle overs. As a batting unit you need to step up, you need to create partnerships and we didn't do that.

"Credit to USA, they performed so well. They were better than us in all aspects of the game."
