ETU Honorary President Park Soo Nam passes away. WT

European Taekwondo Union (ETU) Honorary President, Grandmaster Park Soo Nam passed away at the age of 76. 

South Korean-born official came to Germany decades ago. He held various national and international positions in Taekwondo and was a very successful head national coach of Germany in the 70s. 

"He contributed to the development of Taekwondo in many countries in Europe as well as worldwide. Later in his life, he held positions as President in Germany and Great Britain. 

"Within World Taekwondo, Park Soo Nam was Vice-president and was the driving force behind the introduction of the first World Poomsae Championships in 2006 in Korea. 

“Within ETU, Park Soo Nam held various positions and since April 2016, he was appointed as Honorary President. His famous address in Stuttgart at Böblinger Strasse was the home of Taekwondo Actuell and the place where he gave Taekwondo lessons his whole life. 

"The whole Taekwondo Family worldwide mourns for the loss of Grandmaster Park Soo Nam. ETU wishes his beloved family and friends strength in these difficult times," is written in the ETU's official website.

World Taekwondo (WT) president Chungwon Choue expressed his sadness about the passing of Park Soo Nam. 

"Grandmaster Park was a former Vice President of World Taekwondo. He was a true Taekwondo man who lived and dedicated his life to the martial art that he loved. He was instrumental in my first years of presidency, and we worked hard together to ensure the survival of Taekwondo as an Olympic sport in challenging times. 

"For decades, Grandmaster Park promoted Taekwondo worldwide especially through his magazine, Taekwondo Aktuell, which was one of the earliest publications that helped enhance awareness of Taekwondo. 

"In his final years, Grandmaster Park dedicated his life to bringing happiness to children and youths through our beloved Taekwondo.On behalf of the World Taekwondo Family, thank you Grandmaster Park. Our prayers and thoughts are with Grandmaster Park's family," said Choue.
