At the weekend's Australian Olympic Trials, Shayna Jack and Meg Harris qualified for Paris 2024, while veterans such as Cate Campbell and Cody Simpson missed out on the Olympic stage.

Youth triumphed over experience on the final day of the Australian Olympic trials. Shayna Jack (25) and Meg Harris (22) booked their places in the 50m freestyle for Paris 2024 on a day that saw Tokyo gold medallist Emma McKeon (30) andveteran Cate Campbell (32), who was seeking a fifth Olympic appearance, miss out.

Jack clocked an impressive time of 23.99 seconds to break the 24-second barrier for the first time, with Harris close behind in 24.26. McKeon finished third, while Campbell was seventh, bringing an end to her illustrious Olympic career.

In tears, the 32-year-old eight-time Olympic medallist spoke candidly about how time has dealt her a harsh blow at the end of a successful career: "It's bittersweet, not the fairytale ending I was hoping for. The mind was ready, but the body wasn't".

Meanwhile, pop star-turned-swimmer Cody Simpson also saw his Olympic dreams shattered, finishing fifth in the men's 100m butterfly, a race won by Matt Temple.

As well as the upset eliminations, the day confirmed a strong and promising Australian squad of 41 swimmers for Paris. The squad includes 23 debutants and established figures such as Cameron McEvoy, Bronte Campbell, Emma McKeon and Kyle Chalmers.

Head Coach Rohan Taylor said: "This is a team that will do Australia proud both in and out of the pool. We're looking forward to the competition in Saint-Denis at the Centre Aquatique Olympique.

Australia will be looking to build on their success in Tokyo 2020, where they won seven individual gold medals and two relay gold medals, in Paris.
