England eliminate USA from T20 Cricket World Cup. T20WorldCup / X

Defending champions England booked their place in the semi-finals with a comprehensive 10-wicket win over the USA on Sunday. Jordan and Buttler shine with outstanding performances at the T20 World Cup.

The USA crashed out of the T20 Cricket World Cup after a crushing defeat by England in Bridgetown, the capital of the Caribbean island of Barbados.

Riding on Jos Buttler's 38-ball 83, which included seven sixes,England chased down the USA target of 116 with 62 balls to spare at Kensington Oval.

England, the reigning champions of the sport's shortest format, have now booked their place in the semi-finals.

Chris Jordan took four wickets in five balls, including the third hat-trick of the T20 World Cup, as defending champions England stormed into the semi-finals with a 10-wicket win over USA in his native Barbados on Sunday.

The 35-year-old, who was born and educated on the Caribbean island, justified his recall with figures of 4-10 from 2.5 overs as the USA were dismissed for 115.

England captain Jos Buttler then led a blistering chase with an unbeaten 83, hitting five sixes in an over from Harmeet Singh, as his side reached their target in just 9.4 overs.

England's swift victory guaranteed them a place in the semi-finals, regardless of the outcome of the final Group Two Super Eights match between co-hosts West Indies and South Africa in Antigua, or any net run-rate calculations.

Buttler faced just 38 balls, including six fours and seven sixes, but the day belonged to Jordan, whose hat-trick was the third of the tournament. Australia's Pat Cummins had previously achieved the feat against Bangladesh and Afghanistan, and this was the first by an England bowler in a men's T20 international.

"Unbelievable feeling, especially to limit the USA and to do it in a special place like this is always nice," said Jordan. "I've had a couple of hat-tricks, so it was nice to get one this time."

Buttler added: "I wanted to bring CJ back to add a bit of depth to the batting and we know what he's capable of with the ball. He has done that fantastically well and a hat-trick at the World Cup is a great achievement.

On his own form, Buttler said: "Personally, it's really important that I take that into the semi-finals. I've been feeling good all year, I feel like I'm hitting the ball well and it's nice to have that confidence.

England are joined in the semi-finals by South Africa, who overcame the West Indies, while the four teams in Group 1 of the ICC T20 Men's World Cup Super Eight will battle it out for the remaining two spots.

India are well placed to reach the semi-finals, but a defeat to Australia in their final Super Eight match could see Rohit Sharma's side miss out. A win over Australia will see them finish top of Group 1, while a defeat could see them leapfrogged by Australia, or even Afghanistan if they beat Bangladesh in their final Super Eight match.

If India qualify for the semi-finals, they will play their knockout match in Guyana on 27 June.

Australia's shock defeat to Afghanistan in St Vincent has left the 2021 champions in a precarious position ahead of their final Super Eight match against India. Victory over India would likely see Australia qualify for the semi-finals, while defeat could see either Afghanistan or Bangladesh take their place.
