Condon becomes the 46th recipient of the award, which honours the top amateur player in the USA, and the first for the Georgia programme. Condon leads the national rankings in nearly every statistical category after a record-breaking season in 2024.

Georgia's Charlie Condon has been named the 46th recipient of the Golden Spikes Award. Since its inception in 1978, the Golden Spikes Award has honoured the nation's top amateur baseball player on the basis of athletic ability, sportsmanship, character and overall contribution to the sport. Condon becomes the fifth finalist in the history of the Georgia programme and the school's first ever winner.

"Charlie's 2024 season has been incredible to watch and he is very deserving of this award. We are thrilled to have Charlie join our brotherhood of Golden Spikes Award winners. We look forward to celebrating his special season," said Paul Seiler, Executive Director/CEO of USA Baseball.

Condon leads the national rankings in nearly every statistical category after a record-breaking season in 2024. Condon ranks in the top six nationally in on-base percentage (.556) and runs scored (84) after earning SEC Player of the Year honours. His 100 hits, 57 walks and 20 doubles also rank in the top four in the SEC.

During his award-winning season, Condon finished the 2024 season just three home runs shy of the SEC single-season home run record. He is tied for fifth all-time in the conference with 62 career home runs in just two seasons.

Condon was a First Team All-SEC member at third base in addition to being named Conference Player of the Year. He was named the conference's Player of the Week three times in 2024 and earned a spot on the NCAA Athens Regional All-Tournament Team. A finance major, Condon is a member of the annual SEC Academic Honor Roll.

Historically, Golden Spikes Award winners have gone on to great success in Major League Baseball. Of the 45 previous winners, six have gone on to win Rookie of the Year, including Lewis in 2020. In addition, three have won the Cy Young Award, three have been named MVP, and 11 have won a World Series championship as a player or manager. That is a total of 18 championships.

The winner was selected through the distribution of ballots to a voting panel consisting of national baseball media, select professional baseball personnel and USA Baseball staff, as well as previous award winners, for a total of more than 100 voters. In 2024, fan voting will be part of the Golden Spikes Award and a contributor to the total number of votes.
