Together. That is how the Washington Capitals team plans to celebrate the club's 50th anniversary. To mark this significant milestone, the Capitals have unveiled some 50th Anniversary logos and the brand's creative policy for the 2024-25 campaign, which will be tied to the 50 years that have passed since the team debuted in the National Hockey League in the 1974-75 season. As part of the celebration, the team has launched a special 50th anniversary microsite at washcaps.com/Caps50th, featuring exclusive Capitals content. Capitals fans are encouraged to sign up on the microsite to stay informed about all of the upcoming anniversary initiatives.

"We are excited to begin celebrating the vibrant past of the Capitals and honouring our history as we celebrate 50 years as an NHL franchise," said Jim Van Stone, President of Business Operations and Chief Commercial Officer of Monumental Sports & Entertainment. "Fans can look forward to several events and initiatives that will commemorate this milestone in a unique way, and we are eager to share the celebration with our fan base.

The Capitals have unveiled a special series of 50th Anniversary logos to commemorate the milestone. The primary 50th anniversary logo pays homage to the franchise's origins with a design that celebrates the team, its fans and its roots. It incorporates elements from the team's first logo. The unique reverse italic typeface reflects the team's history and tradition. Inspired by the Capitals' initial lettering in 1974, the emblem features a 50 in reverse italics and a hockey stick, along with the red and blue stars from the original sweaters.

The franchise's original red, white and blue colour scheme changed to black, blue and bronze in the mid-1990s. The team's return to darker, richer shades of red, white and blue coincided with a new era of success. It culminated in the 2018 Stanley Cup championship. Each of these colour schemes was implemented through a series of secondary logos.

The team also introduced a special tagline: A Legacy in ALL CAPS, to coincide with the 50th anniversary. This means that the Capitals are determined, principled and community-oriented, representing 50 years of unwavering commitment and dedication. As the team celebrates 50 years of Capitals hockey, the motto will be used in the team's narrative, social media content, arena messaging, retail, advertising and more.

The Capitals' home and away jerseys will feature a 50th Anniversary patch with the 50th Anniversary logo on the secondary side. The patch will debut on Capitals jerseys during the 2024 NHL Draft, which will be held in Las Vegas on Friday, June 28 and Saturday, June 29.

The Capitals' home ice at Capital One Arena will feature a 50th anniversary logo. A special celebration will be held there on 10 October. A concert, activities and experiences for attendees will be part of the event. There will also be an alumni weekend and the season will conclude with the launch of the Era Nights initiative: the Capitals will host several Era Nights throughout the 2024-25 season, each celebrating a specific period in Capitals history from 1974 to the present, and will take fans on a nostalgic journey through the team's evolution.
