Summer Olympic International Federations. FIH

ASOIF (Association of Summer Olympic International Federations) has recognised the International Hockey Federation (FIH) transparency and good governance practices, its efforts to consistently deliver and live the Olympic Values and its sustainability efforts, as confirmed by the promotion of the FIH to the higher tier of International Federations in its fifth Governance Review.

For the first time since the inception of this review in 2016-17, FIH has moved up a group (from 'B' to 'A2'). Commenting on this milestone, FIH President Tayyab Ikram said, "I would like to thank and congratulate all FIH stakeholders involved for reaching a higher group for the first time in the ASOIF Governance Review. This is a great achievement and an endorsement of the way we work."

This achievement is all the more remarkable given that scores in the assessment generally correlate with size, meaning that International Federations (IFs) with larger numbers of staff and more financial income tend to have higher scores. In fact, the FIH was the second highest scoring IF in the CHF 8-20 million revenue group.

FIH achieved a moderated score of 191, which puts it roughly in the middle of the A2 group (see below). Looking only at the 50 indicators retained (with some changes) from 2021-22, FIH's score rose from 149 to 166, the highest ever recorded by the world hockey governing body.

The ASOIF report also cites the FIH as an example of good governance practice in a number of areas, including gender equality policy/strategy, diversity at Board/Committee level, security, elections, financial transparency and publication of accounts, sustainable development and the adoption of a human rights policy.

FIH President Tayyab Ikram added, "FIH is committed to operating with the highest standards of good governance. This recognition is a huge reward, but it only motivates us to aim higher. We are aware of our responsibility and will ensure that we continue on our path of continuous improvement in all the areas under review. I would like to thank my colleagues on the Executive Board, all Committee and Panel members and the FIH Team for their compliance to and support of all governance measures put in place by the FIH."

The aim of the ASOIF Governance Review is to promote and ensure a culture of good governance within the international federations and to help drive continuous progress. It assessed indicators around five key pillars, namely transparency, integrity, democracy, development and sustainability, and control mechanisms.
