A leg injury forced the champion to withdraw from the European Championships in Rome as a precaution. She has already qualified for the Olympics, so she doesn't have the same pressure as some of her teammates. This will be the British athlete's fourth opportunity to win an Olympic medal, having withdrawn from Tokyo 2020 due to injury.

World heptathlon championJohnson-Thompson has called for calm among fans and the athletics world concerned about her physical condition ahead of Paris 2024. Johnson-Thompson has insisted she feels "healthy now" following concerns about her fitness ahead of the Paris Olympics.

A few weeks ago, the 31-year-old British athletics star withdrew from the European Championships in Rome due to a minor leg injury. Her decision was mainly to avoid aggravating the injury. Johnson-Thompson returned to action at the British Athletics Championships in Manchester on Saturday. "I feel good," said Johnson-Thompson after competing in the individual javelin.

She reiterated that she had pulled out of Rome as a precautionary measure to avoid having to deal with anything major. "I don't want anything to get in the way of my chance to win a medal this year." Johnson-Thompson appears to be arriving at Paris 2024 at a very strong moment of athletic maturity, having won her second world title in Budapest last year.

It will be her fourth appearance at an Olympics where success has eluded her as she continues to search for that elusive medal. She was ruled out of Tokyo 2020 due to injury, and will be looking to add this to her resume. With just three weeks to go until the Olympics, her goal now is to compete in some of the individual events that make up the heptathlon. At the British Championships, she has entered the 200 metres and the high jump.

"My weekend is a bit different from everyone else's," she said. "My expectations are just to see what I can do. To see if I can implement some of the things I've been doing in training." For her, the events are just another form of training in optimal conditions to push herself. She wants to refine aspects and mistakes and use the Manchester competition as a testing ground.

Johnson-Thompson was eliminated in the javelin after three attempts. Her best throw was 42.38 metres.
The event was won by Bekah Walton for the fourth year in a row, but her mark of 54.11 was not enough to qualify her for the Olympics.

Johnson-Thompson left lasting memories when she was injured at the Tokyo 2020 Games. Johnson-Thompson was a favourite to win, or at least medal. However, she tore her Achilles tendon during the 200m. She had previously recovered from problems, but aggravated the injury and was forced to retire to cheers from the crowd and tears from the athlete.
Her best finish in three Olympic appearances - London 2012, Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 - was sixth in Rio 2016.
