The World Boxing Council (WBC) expelled fighter Ryan Garcia from participating in its events on Thursday following his racist outburst on social media.

WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman announced on X, formerly known as Twitter, that Garcia is barred from participating in any matches associated with the global boxing organization.

"Exercising my authority as president of the WBC, I am hereby expelling Ryan Garcia from any activity with our organisation," Sulaiman stated.

"We reject any form of discrimination. I fear for Ryan's well-being as he has declined multiple attempts for our help with mental health and substance abuse."

Garcia, 25, is already under a one-year suspension from the New York State Athletic Commission due to a failed drug test prior to his victory over Devin Haney in April, a win later declared a no-contest.

He later announced on X that he was "officially retired" and mentioned plans to transition to the UFC. He also denied any allegations of having a banned substance in his system during the fight against Haney.

The substance Garcia tested positive for was Ostarine, which, while not a steroid, can promote muscle growth and is included on the World Anti-Doping Agency's list of prohibited substances.

Additionally, Garcia faced felony vandalism charges last month for allegedly causing around $15,000 (€13,850) in damages at a Beverly Hills hotel.

The WBC enacted its ban on Thursday after Garcia repeatedly used a racist slur during a livestream on X and mocked George Floyd, the African-American man whose 2020 murder by police in Minneapolis ignited global protests.
