Jin, the oldest member of the K-pop group BTS, will be performing a different kind of fire: carrying the Olympic flame as torchbearer for the Paris Games, representing South Korea in hopes of spreading the message of "harmony" and "peace".

The 31-year-old is scheduled to go across various historic sites of the host country, France, during the torch relay. It is unclear when the singer, who recently finished his mandatory military service in South Korea, will join the relay.

For this edition of the Olympic Games, the torch relay is meant to offer a unique insight into France’s history: building links between different eras and showcasing exceptional sites that contributed to France’s reputation and influence during each major period of its history. Along the route, federations and clubs organise collective relays that highlight their sports —from surfing to cycling to canoeing. The flame will also celebrate famous sporting venues; including Marseille Stadium and Geoffroy-Guichard Stadium in Saint-Etienne and Simonne-Mathieu Court at Roland-Garros.

The flame for the Paris Games was lit in Olympia, Greece —the birthplace of the ancient Olympics— back in April and has been travelling in a relay ever since, crossing the Mediterranean Sea to France, making its way through the country and crossing the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans to the French territories

The flame is back on mainland France, making its way to Paris for the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, where it will light the cauldron signalling the commencement of the Olympiad.
