The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) has announced the 2025 calendar for the 2024 season, which will include World Championships in Ängelholm (Sweden) and Algarve (Portugal), as well as tournaments on three different continents.

The official WFDF 2025 calendar was announced following the completion of a competitive bidding process in which hosts were selected based on a number of criteria including previous experience in organising flying disc events, total cost to teams and athletes, availability of suitable facilities and competition venue. In addition, all bids were approved and endorsed by the National Flying Disc Federation of the host country.

The WFDF is the international federation responsible for the global governance of Flying Disc (Frisbee) sports, including Ultimate, Beach Ultimate, Disc Golf, Freestyle, Guts and Individual events.

Spain will host the 2025 World Under-24 Ultimate Championships (WU24) from 21-28 June in Logroño.

Neighbouring Portugal will host the final World Championship of 2025. The beautiful Algarve coast will be the epicentre of the 2025 World Beach Ultimate Championships (WBUC) from 2-8 November.

The year will also see action in Sweden (August) and Japan (September) with World Championships in Overall Flying Disc and Ultimate & Guts. The year will conclude with the 2025 Pan American Ultimate Championships (PAUC) in the Dominican Republic from 30 November to 6 December 2025.

"It is a great honour for Logroño to be the first city in Spain to host a WFDF sanctioned Ultimate Frisbee World Championship," commented WU24 Tournament Director Massimiliano Vitali. "We look forward to the participants experiencing the charm and beauty of Logroño, its excellent infrastructure and the welcoming spirit of our region, La Rioja".

"We are excited to announce the return of the PAUC to the Dominican Republic," said PAUC Tournament Director Juan Acosta. "After 2023, we have been fortunate to see significant growth in the sport of ultimate in the community. We are eager to further support this progress by hosting another major WFDF event."

The WFDF 2025 calendar includes both World Championships and Continental events, and brings the World Overall Flying Disc Championships back to Sweden with events in Accuracy, Discathon, Distance, Disc Golf, Double Disc Court, Freestyle and Self-Caught Flight.

Details of other WFDF-sanctioned events for 2025, including the World Wheelchair Ultimate Championships (WWUC), the All African Ultimate Championships (AAUC) and the Virtual Sport World Team Disc Golf Championship (VSWTDGC) are being finalised and will be announced soon.

In addition, with the support of the WFDF, Flying Disc will be featured at the 12th edition of The World Games (TWG). The TWG will be held in Chengdu, China from 5-17 August 2025 and will include both Ultimate and Disc Golf as medal sports.

"We are proud of the momentum we are carrying into 2025, both within the flying disc community and the broader international sporting community," commented WFDF President Robert "Nob" Rauch.

"We look forward to working with the selected LOCs to deliver a full calendar of world-class championship events across multiple disciplines in 2025, as well as showcasing both Ultimate and Disc Golf at the World Games. We are excited to see the continued growth and interest in Flying Disc sports as we continue our mission - to support and promote the inclusive growth and development of all Flying Disc sports and the Spirit of the Game,"said Rauch.

The WFDF has set its sights on the Olympic Games and has meticulously organised its programme well in advance. It has presented a programme to be part of Brisbane 2032 and the excellent organisation, together with the growth of the sport, will be a key factor in its selection.
