Greece was the chosen venue. The city of Patras hosted the 2024 Muaythai World Championship last June, organised by the International Federation of Muaythai Associations (IFMA), and did so with a program that placed special emphasis on promoting inclusion, equality, and diversity.

The event featured a competition category for people with disabilities and IFMA's objective was to include inclusive sports in this global event, always with the aim of highlighting and showcasing the value of athletes within such a demanding discipline as Muaythai.

Guided by the principles of the "One World, One Muaythai" mantra, IFMA has continuously evaluated and refined its programs to embody the slogan "Unity in Diversity," thereby providing all kinds of opportunities to fighters with disabilities. This spirit was showcased at the recent World Championships held in Patras.

The event featured popular competitions in the cultural divisions of Mai Muay and Wai Kru, as well as the thrilling Combat Divisions. However, it was the Para and Special Disciplines that truly captured hearts, earning widespread respect and recognition. Athletes of varying abilities participated in the Para(S) division, including para-wheelchair, para-amputee, para-visual impairment, and divisions for athletes with autism and Down syndrome, demonstrating diversity and representation. Ensuring fair competition conditions for everyone was paramount, giving all athletes a chance to shine.

Athletes from around the world united with a message of inclusion, demonstrating how these divisions can profoundly impact lives. The competitions and award ceremonies were broadcast in over 200 countries, highlighting the true spirit of sport. "The performance of each participant in these inclusive categories of the Championship serves as a source of immense pride for all of us," stated IFMA.

For the Federation, inclusive disciplines extend beyond muaythai, thanks especially to the support of the teams and trainers. "These efforts help athletes achieve incredible personal growth, reaching their full potential both inside and outside the ring. It is about empowering athletes to strive to do their best, improving their physical abilities, and embracing the spirit of sportsmanship."
