This year's edition of the European Universities Games will begin with a grand opening ceremony on the evening of 12 July, starting at 20:00 in the DVTK Arena, the largest sports and entertainment hall in Miskolc. The event will be open to all participants arriving for the Opening Ceremony. 

The first athletes will arrive in both cities in a few days. The preparations are in full swing in Debrecen and Miskolc and the air is already filled with the excitement of the biggest university sports event of the summer. The cities, the venues, the European University Sports Association (EUSA) team, the local Organising Committee and all the athletes across Europe are busy with the final preparations before the start of the EUG 2024. 

EUSA and the Organising Committee departments are actively collaborating and communicating to finalise the detailed schedule for the 17 sports that will be included in the Games, as well as concluding other side events and discussing sports technical issues.

In Miskolc, the final preparations are running smoothly. The venues are being decorated, the staff and volunteers are arriving and working hard to make the first welcomes and competitions as great as possible. The University of Miskolc officially inaugurated its brand new tennis centre, one of the most beautiful legacies of the EUG. It includes four indoor and four additional outdoor hard courts, as well as a beautiful clubhouse.

EUSA staff are actively involved in the preparations, having arrived earlier this week to support the preparations in Debrecen and Miskolc. The representatives of the local Organising Committee and the EUSA are trying to meet the demands, expectations and daily changes before the start of the event and are working hard to ensure a great outcome and atmosphere of the EUG 2024.

The final arrangements are also in full swing in Debrecen and the city is covered with promotional banners. In the main hall of the University of Debrecen, a special oath has been taken by the students who will take part in the EUG 2024 in a ceremony that marked their commitment, passion and spirit of fair play. The local athletes will also have the opportunity to test some of the venues in advance.

All of the important details of the Games have also been published and are available in the two handbooks, which provide detailed information on all the sports, accommodation, transport and other sporting, technical and logistical aspects of the event. In both cities there will also be competitions, social, educational and other activities organised by the local organising teams and EUSA. 

Several educational programmes will be organised on behalf of EUSA, including the EUSA Forum, the Youth Exchange, the Observer Programme, workshops on interesting and relevant topics - Youth Empowerment and Youth Mental Health - in cooperation with EUSA partner ENGSO Youth, and partner meetings related to projects co-funded by the European Union: ESOM, DiscoverU, YouMind, Youth Mobility and More than Games.
