Former USA international and NBA star Stephon Marbury has been named ambassador for the 34th edition of the FIBA Intercontinental Cup, which will be held in Singapore from 12-15 September 2024, and will for the first time feature representation from all five FIBA regions.

The 2024 edition of the FIBA Intercontinental Cup promises to be an unforgettable event with the representation of all FIBA regions and the presence of a great legend like Stephon Marbury, who will serve as the tournament's ambassador.

The thirty-fourth edition of the tournament will take place from 12-15 September, and Marbury will be attending the first edition of the competition to feature clubs from all five FIBA regions.

Marbury, a bronze medallist with Team USA at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and a two-time NBA All-Star, will be the ambassador for the second (of three) intercontinental tournaments to be held in Singapore.

The former American point guard played thirteen seasons in the NBA and seven more in the Chinese league. He currently coaches the Beijing Royal Fighters in the Chinese Basketball Association, which keeps him closely tied to Asia.

"I am honoured to be entrusted with the role of ambassador for such a unique competition steeped in basketball history," said Marbury.

"The FIBA Intercontinental Cup is a celebration of the growth of our sport on a global scale. With teams from all FIBA regions, including Oceania, competing for the first time, we are guaranteed some exciting games and I believe the fans are in for a treat," said the former New Jersey Nets and Phoenix Suns player (with whom he had the honour of being an All-Star in 2000 and 2003 respectively).

"I look forward to seeing how each continental champion will bring their unique basketball culture, style and philosophy to the tournament, and what better place to compete than in multicultural Singapore. This is what we mean by basketball's ability to unite people and break down barriers," said the newly appointed ambassador.

Commenting on basketball in host country Singapore, the former NBA star said, "I hear that basketball is growing in the community in Singapore and a lot of effort has been put into developing the sport. I am really looking forward to spending time with young people while I am in Singapore for the FIBA Intercontinental Cup. I hope my trip can serve as an inspiration for the next generation of basketball players."

Kallang Alive Sport Management, the organisers of the FIBA Intercontinental Cup, announced that fans will have the opportunity to enjoy the best FIBA basketball in the world with free entry to all games on the first day of the FIBA Intercontinental Cup 2024, followed by affordable prices.
