FIBA's commercial development strategy: Expanding horizons with FIBA PLUS. FIBA

The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) continues to expand the Project Planning element of its initiative to include commercial development planning through the FIBA PLUS programme.

FIBA PLUS extends the project planning support for federations to include commercial development. It is the main driver behind FIBA's strategic priority of empowering National Federations and is designed to help strengthen and support National Federations through various implementation tools.

Existing FIBA PLUS project planning support offers National Federations a wide range of opportunities, including assistance in the implementation of various plans such as grassroots basketball development, coaching development, officiating development, 3x3 basketball development and women's basketball development.

The new addition will focus on assisting National Federations in the creation of a Commercial Development Plan, specifically tailored for each federation, with the aim of increasing revenue and/or achieving key milestones to secure more revenue in the future.

As usual, the support process will involve the FIBA PLUS team working closely with the federations, offering their skills and knowledge. In order to achieve the best possible results, the team's specialists in sports marketing, sales and commercialisation will provide assistance.

They will conduct a detailed situation analysis and provide the necessary guidance and support to the National Federations throughout the process, helping them to develop a tailor-made commercial development plan that will be effective for a period of 12 to 24 months.

FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis said, "We are proud of the way we have been able to support and empower our National Federations through FIBA PLUS, which is central to us and our long-term strategic goals."

"FIBA PLUS has already delivered many successful projects and results, but we are also committed to ensuring that the initiative continues to evolve and improve. The extension of this project planning support element clearly demonstrates our commitment to supporting our National Federations as much as possible."

Meanwhile, Frank Leenders, Director General of FIBA Media & Marketing, added, "This additional FIBA PLUS programme could be a potential game changer for the federations that take advantage of it. We believe it can give them a much better chance to improve their commercial planning, increase their revenue streams and ultimately provide them with more opportunities for further growth and improvement both on and off the court."
