Fate has decreed that the Roland Garros champions, with 20 titles between them, will meet in Bastad. There is only one twist to the tale: The 38-year-old Spaniard will play 21-year-old Leo Borg, the son of the legendary Bjorn Borg, who is now 68. The draw was a pleasant surprise.

In the world of fantasy tennis, Nadal vs. Borg might seem like a given. In the real world, however, it is impossible. Rafa Nadal and Bjorn Borg are the two players with the most Roland Garros titles. Both have won 20 titles: 14 for the Spaniard and six for the former world number one. Nadal is 38 and Borg is 68. It would be hard to imagine them playing each other, but the Bastad draw has added an unexpected twist.

Instead, Nadal will face Leo Borg, the 21-year-old son of the former world number one. "It was crazy because we were watching when they made the draw and my name came up against Rafa," said Borg, currently ranked 467th in the world. "I'm very excited and it's going to be a great match," he said. Nadal is currently ranked 265 in the ATP world and the 21-year-old Swede, 17 years his junior, is ranked 467.

Interestingly, son Borg never watched a single point of his father's illustrious career, which included six French Open titles and five consecutive Wimbledon crowns. However, Nadal is a source of inspiration for the young player. Playing against the Spaniard will be both a challenge and a reward. Friday's practice together will be even more special.

"It was a very good practice and of course he's been my idol since I was very young. So it will be a very special moment in my career," said Borg. "But I'm looking forward to it and I'm very, very excited", he said.

Borg's only win on the ATP Tour last year came in Bastad against Elias Ymer. The Spanish champion will use Bastad as a test to prepare for the Olympics. He has played in Bastad on several occasions, three times to be precise, and won it in 2005.

Nadal will use Bastad to try and recover from the injuries that have prevented him from playing as well as he would have liked over the past two years. He was knocked out in the first round at Roland Garros by Zverev, who went on to reach the final, before opting to skip Wimbledon

He did not want to take any risks with the Olympics in mind. He will also take part in the doubles with Casper Ruud in preparation for the Olympics, where he will team up with compatriot Carlos Alcaraz. Spain's dream pair.

Defending champion and top seed Andrey Rublev will look to defend his title against Thiago Agustin Tirante.

Bjorn Borg was one of the greatest players in the history of tennis. He won a total of 66 ATP Tour tournaments during his career, including 11 Grand Slam titles, three year-end Masters, 15 Grand Prix Super Series tournaments (the current Masters 1000), 17 Grand Prix Regular Series tournaments (the current Masters 500) and 18 Mid-Series tournaments (the current Masters 250).
