Kyung Hee University dominates Poomsae Division at Daegu 2024. WT

Kyung Hee University’s Poomsae team achieved an impressive gold medal sweep at the 2024 World University Taekwondo Festival, held at Keimyung University, Daegu, Korea from 5 to 9 July, the MasTKD reports.

The team excelled in four recognized Poomsae categories: men’s individual, women’s individual, men’s team, and women’s team, along with the men’s individual freestyle Poomsae.

The competition is an international event with G1 ranking points. This festival continues the legacy of the World University Taekwondo Championships, now integrated into the Summer World University Games. 

Over 700 athletes from 56 countries competed in the festival’s inaugural tournament, including the United States, Japan, Mexico, Pakistan, and Norway, participated in both sparring and Poomsae events. Kyorugi embraced 12 categories, while poomsae included seven categories, including individuals and teams.

Kyung Hee University’s Poomsae team earned a total of five gold and two silver medals across seven categories in both recognized and freestyle Poomsae events. 

Head Coach Min-woo Jeon expressed his gratitude, stating, that it was not easy for our athletes to gain experience on the international stage. "I’m very thankful for the creation of this platform for university students worldwide. I hope to see more exchanges with athletes from more countries in future competitions," told Jeon to MasTKD. 

The annual event, which is promoted by WT and endorsed by FISU, has three scheduled editions, which will run through 2026.
