For the first time in the Olympic Games Tunisia will be represented by four Taekwondo athletes at the Paris 2024.

One of them, Mohamed Khalil Jendoubi is the first Tunisian Taekwondo athlete to reach the Olympic Games final and win a silver medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Jendoubi improved Oussama Oueslati’s result who had won the bronze medal at the Rio 2016. He is also bronze medallist of the Youth Olympic Games in 2018.

Hechmi Jendoubi, the assistant coach of the National Team and father of Mohamed Khalil Jendoubi hopes that the team will win more than one medal in Paris. “We are preparing for the Olympic Games which is the biggest sporting competition in the world. I hope we will win many medals," Hechmi Jendoubi told AfricaNews.

Three other competitors, Firas Katoussi (men’s -80 kg), Ikram Dhahri (women’s -49 kg) and Chaima Toumi (women’s -57 kg) won their Olympic licences through the African Qualifiers.

''We have exceeded the world level. We are at the Olympic level... We don't feel that the other competitors are better or stronger than us. We have the same technical and physical conditions," says Gatoussi.

Two time African champion Toumi, who also won the African Games in 2024, says that they are making taekwondo well known in Tunisia. "It's for the first time that four champions have qualified for the Olympics. We are first in Arab and African countries. This is so important. Thanks God, our dreams came true and we honoured our country.''
