The Ad Hoc Division of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which opened two temporary offices in Paris for the Olympic Games, has registered its first Paris 2024-related arbitration case.

Jamaica's Nayoka Clunis was qualified and selected by the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) to represent Jamaica in the hammer throw competition at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, but her name was not submitted by the JAAA to World Athletics (WA). Clunis is seeking a ruling from the CAS Ad Hoc Division ordering that she be placed on the appropriate list to compete in the hammer throw at Paris 2024.

The Panel of Arbitrators appointed to decide this dispute, consisting of president Annabelle Bennett (Australia), Carine Dupeyron (France) and Kristen Thorsness (USA), will hold a hearing with the parties on 20 July 2024. The Panel's decision is expected to be issued on 21 July 2024.

As reported by Insidethegames, the Court of Arbitration for Sport has opened two temporary offices in Paris for the Olympic Games in a significant decision to expedite any arbitration disputes that may arise in Paris.

The first office, the CAS Ad Hoc Division, will resolve any disputes that may arise during the Olympic Games. This temporary tribunal has been in operation at every Summer and Winter Olympic Games since Atlanta in 1996, as well as at other major sporting events.

The main function of this office is to ensure free access to high quality dispute resolution services. These services are provided within a timeframe that coincides with the competition schedule, as the division can issue decisions within 24 hours in urgent cases.

The second temporary office is for the CAS Anti-Doping Division. This structure was created for Rio 2016 and it will handle all doping cases referred by the International Testing Authority in accordance with the International Olympic Committee. From 16 July to 11 August, the offices will be located at the Paris Courthouse in the 17th arrondissement and are open from 08:30 to 18:00 (local time).
