On Sunday the 21st, the Copper Box Arena in London hosted a friendly match for Paris 2024 between the women's teams of Germany and Great Britain. After three quarters, the game was suspended following a medical incident in the crowd.

During the third period, with a comfortable lead for the German squad (43-54), a spectator "ran onto the court" and alerted the German bench that a fan in the stands had fallen ill, according to The Sun.

After the initial scare, and given the unofficial nature of the match, both sides mutually agreed to suspend the game for the well-being of the spectator. The medical teams from both teams quickly attended to the stands where the person experiencing the emergency was located. Sheets were raised to provide privacy for the spectator, who was later taken away on a stretcher without apparent risk.

"During the game between the Great Britain women's team and Germany, a medical incident occurred affecting a member of the public," reflected the GB Basketball federation in a statement released on social media.

The federation also expressed its gratitude to both teams for the fantastic display and, of course, "to the fans for their support and understanding in these circumstances."

Satou Sabally, a key player for the German national team and a WNBA player for the Dallas Wings, commented post-game, "I hope the best for both families affected. Sometimes difficult moments happen; unfortunately, it's part of the sport. Obviously, health always comes first."

While Great Britain has not qualified for the Games, the German women's team will resume their preparation for Paris 2024 on Tuesday against the team to beat, the United States. The nation is grouped in Group C, along with Japan and Belgium.
