In celebration of their participation in the Olympic Games, the Azerbaijan Olympic House held its opening ceremony Saturday at the Embassy of Azerbaijan’s Cultural Center in Paris. The initiative aims to welcome international visitors to experience Azerbaijan's history, music, culture and cuisine.

According to Azertac, the event was attended by notable dignitaries including Azerbaijan's Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov, Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Azerbaijan’s Azer Aliyev and Chingiz Huseynzade, Azerbaijani Ambassador to France Leyla Abdullayeva, representatives of Olympic committees of various countries, local community and Azerbaijanis, and the press.

The event highlighted Azerbaijan’s Olympic history, since its participation in the Olympic Games for the first time in 1996, debuting as an independent country in Atlanta. Since then, Azerbaijani athletes have achieved great success with 42 medals in the Summer Games across many disciplines including canoeing, karate, wrestling and shooting.

In Paris, 48 Azerbaijani athletes are set to compete across 17 different programmes in 15 disciplines. Among them are judoka Gultaj Mammadaliyeva and boxer Mahammad Abdullayev who were the country’s flag-bearers at the opening ceremony at the river Seine.

Azerbaijan's first-ever women's basketball team is set to make their historic Olympic debut in 3x3 basketball with Marcedes Walker, Alexandra Mollenhauer, Dina Ulyanova and Tiffany Hayes going against Spain on 30 July. Azerbaijani wrestlers have also secured a full six-man freestyle wrestling team at Paris 2024, including Olympic silver and bronze medallist Haji Aliyev.

Beyond a cultural showcase, the Azerbaijan Olympic House will also serve as a gathering place for Azerbaijanis, residents, and supporters, offering opportunities to connect with the nation's Olympic athletes.
