The president of the Bahrain Paralympic Committee, His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Duaij Al Khalifa, expressed in an official press release his confidence in the Bahrain Paralympic Athletics Team’s ability to achieve outstanding results in the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris.

The Bahrain Paralympic Committee president confirmed that the team's participation in the 2024 Paralympic Games comes within the strategic plan of the Committee, which aims to develop Paralympic sports in the Kingdom, raise the level of performance of players and achieve achievements on the international stage.

"We are proud of the participation of the Bahrain Paralympic Athletics Team in this important tournament, which will witness strong competition from the best Paralympic players in the world. We at the Bahrain Paralympic Committee have done our utmost to provide all the necessary capabilities and support for the team, including training camps, advanced sports equipment and tools,” the president said in a statement.

In preparation for the Paralympics, the Athletics team —including Ruba Al-Omari and Hussein Mohammed— has been in a training camp in Kazakhstan since 22 July. There the team is focusing on intensive training sessions and participate in friendly competitions until 19 August.

While Al-Omari is known as the first wheelchair basketball player in the Gulf region, she is competing this year in the discus throw F55 category. She has participated in Tokyo 2020 —where she was Bahrain’s sole female competitor and flag-bearer—, World Discus Throw, Gulf Leagues, and the West Asian Championship. She has won 28 gold, 13 silver and 6 bronze medals for the Kingdom.

Hussain Mohammed will compete in the men’s 400m T11, along with his guide Abdullah Jameel.

The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games kick-off on 28 August.
