China was very close to breaking Korea’s dominance in women’s archery on the second day of the Paris 2024 Olympics, but the Korean’s survived the three arrow shoot-off to claim their 10th consecutive Olympic title.

Korea’s National team has remained unbeaten since Seoul 1988. A day before they struggled against the Netherlands in the semi-final, but won the match with a shoot-off, while China defeated Mexico to reach the final.

Korea, led by the trio of Jeon Hunyoung, Lim Sihyeon and Nam Suhyeon, won the first two sets of the final match to take advantage 4-0. But the Chinese team, which featured An Qixuan, Li Jiaman and Yang Xiaolei, took the next two sets to tie the match. 

The three arrow shoot-off ended with the perfect shot by Sihyeon which brought the victory to the Korean Team.

"The weight of achieving the 10th consecutive Olympic title was very heavy, but I am extremely proud of teammates Hunyoung and Suhyeon for overcoming that pressure so well,” said Sihyeon after the final match. 

"It would be a lie if I said that I didn’t feel any pressure. Over the past 40 years, members of the national team have changed, so it was a new challenge for us. I am grateful to be part of Korea’s archery history," concluded the 21 years old athlete.

Earlier in the day Mexico, led by Angela Ruiz, Alejandra Valencia and Ana Vazquez defeated the Netherlands 6-2 to win the bronze medals.
