China’s Sheng Lihao grabs his second gold medal with victory in the men's shooting 10m air rifle competition on Monday. Sheng also placed first in the air rifle mixed team event on Saturday with Huang Yuting, with the teenage pair winning 16-12 against Soth Koreans Keum Ji-hyeon and Park Ha-jun.

In his individual event, 19-year-old Sheng won with an impressive score of 252.2, beating American William Shaner's Olympic record set in Tokyo by 0.6 points. Sweden's Victor Lindgren won the silver medal after shooting 251.4, while Croatia's Miran Maricic picked up the bronze with a 230.0.

Sheng also claimed gold at the 2023 World Championships and the Asian Games in Hangzhou. Together with Huang, he set a new world junior qualification record with 635.1 points on their way to their fourth consecutive World Cup victory in June before coming to Paris. Sheng made his Olympic debut in Tokyo where he won a silver at just 16 years old.

Another 16-year-old shooting sensation is making headlines. South Korea’s Ban Hyojin clinched the gold medal in the women's 10m air rifle shooting: facing off China’s Huang in a nerve-wracking finish to the final in a thrilling shoot-off after both athletes scored 251.8. Ban secured the gold by firing a 10.4, narrowly surpassing Huang's 10.3. The bronze went to Audrey Gogniat who became the first Swiss athlete to medal at Paris 2024.

The historic victory marked the first gold in this event for the nation since 1992 and the 100th gold won by Team Republic of Korea in the history of the Olympic Summer Games. Ban is the youngest member of the South Korean team and has only been shooting since 2021. She earned a silver from the Asian Youth Shooting Championships and the Munich Shooting World Cup.

"I knew about the Olympic record and Olympic qualifying record, and I wanted to put my name in history. So I worked harder," Ban told Olympics.com.
