IWGA and The Korean Sport & Olympic Committee sing MOU. IWGA

The International World Games Association (IWGA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee. The agreement marks a step forward in fostering increased collaboration and mutual support between the two organisations, with the aim of promoting the values of sportsmanship, excellence, and international friendship.

The Memorandum of Understanding, signed 29 July 2024 in Paris, during the Olympic Games at the Korea House, sets the framework for various joint initiatives and projects that will benefit both The World Games and athletes from the Republic of Korea. These initiatives will focus on athlete participation in The World Games 2025 in Chengdu (CHN) from 7-17 August. The two entities will practice knowledge sharing and cross-promote the sports and athletes that are on the programme of the 12th edition of The World Games.

IWGA President José Perurena expressed his enthusiasm for the new partnership. "This agreement is a landmark moment for both the IWGA and the Korean Sport and Olympic Committee, which has just set up an office in Lausanne. By working together, we can create more opportunities for Korean athletes to shine on the world stage and further promote the sports that make The World Games so unique. This collaboration will undoubtedly enhance the experience of the athletes and the global audience, bringing even greater recognition to our shared values and goals," said Perurena.

The partnership will involve exchange promotion and collaborative efforts in sports administration and management. Additionally, there will be an emphasis on promoting sports that are less widely recognised in which Korean athletes take part, giving them a platform to grow and gain popularity.

Lee Kee-Heung, President of the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee (KSOC), also highlighted the significance of the MoU. "We are thrilled to enter into this partnership with the IWGA. The World Games provide a unique opportunity for our athletes to compete at the highest level in a diverse range of sports. We look forward to a fruitful collaboration that will benefit not only our athletes but also the broader sports community."
