Nathan Hales of Team GB clinched the men's trap gold and a new Olympic record. Hales kept his cool in the sweltering heat at Chateauxroux and hit 48 out of 50 targets to break the previous record of 43. His win is Great Britain’s first gold in the event since 1968.

28-year-old Nathan Hales from Kent, England world record holder for the most shots in the event at 49.

Today, his podium mates also made history. Silver medallist Qi Ying —who had been neck-and-neck with Hales— won China’s first medal in men’s trap, while Jean Pierre Brol Cardenas took the bronze for Guatamala’s second Olympic medal.

Historians were kept busy today, as India’s shooters Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh won the bronze in the 10m air pistol mixed team. They beat South Korea’s Oh Ye Jin and Wonho Lee 16-10 for a historic first medal in a shooting team event —and the country’s sixth medal in the sport.

The win also cemented Bhaker’s name in the history books as the first Indian woman to win an Olympic medal in shooting and the first athlete of independent India to win two medals in a single Games. She also placed third in the women's 10m air pistol last Sunday.

Zorana Arunović and Damir Mikec won Serbia’s first Paris gold with a victory in the 10m air pistol mixed.  The Serbians won a 16:14 against Tukiye’s Sevval Ilayda Tarhan and Yusuf Dikec in dramatic fashion, after both teams entered the last round with equal points, after several lead changes. Tukiye’s silver is their first-ever Olympic medal in the discipline.

Shooting resumes tomorrow at 9:00 CEST with the men’s 50m rifle and women’s trap.
