Denmark reaffirmed their status as title contenders with a 32-25 win over Norway to finish the group stage unbeaten. Spain secured a last-minute win, while Germany comfortably beat Slovenia to set up a clash with France in Lille that will be watched closely by the Parisians.

Germany's dominant 36-29 victory over Slovenia in their last group game was their fourth win in five matches and set up a quarter-final meeting with France in Lille.

Coach Alfred Gislason's side were convincing in their battle for top spot in Group A. Unlike the women, who finished fourth in their group and only just made it through to the quarter-finals, the men had a strong qualifying campaign that earned them the label of medal contenders.

Four wins in five matches, including victories over handball powerhouses Sweden and Spain, justified the high expectations for a team that lost in the quarter-finals at Tokyo 2020 and won bronze at Rio 2016.

The hosts booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Olympic tournament with a narrow 24-20 victory over Hungary on a balmy Paris afternoon. It was an excellent result for Guillaume Gille's men, thanks to a solid defensive display and an outstanding performance from Vincent Gรฉrard.

The victory sets up a clash with Germany at the renovated 27,000-seater Stade Pierre-Mauroy, an hour north of Paris by train, on Wednesday 7 August at 13:30 CEST.

Denmark reaffirmed their status as world handball champions by convincingly defeating Norway 32-25 in the final qualifying match of the Paris 2024 Olympic Tournament to finish top of the group with a perfect record.

Nikokaj Jacobsen's side showed their superiority over the Norwegians in a match in which both teams had already secured a place in the quarter-finals and the only thing at stake was the top of the group.

The Danes were in control throughout, with Simon Pytlick kicking nine goals and Kukas Joergensen and Rasmus Lauge adding five apiece. They will meet Sweden in the quarter-finals on Wednesday at 17:30 CEST.

In the final match of the day, Spain and Croatia played a crucial game for the Iberians, who needed a win to avoid a quarter-final clash with Denmark.

A goal from Aleix Gรณmez with just three seconds left in the game saw them avoid the tournament favourites and set up a meeting with Egypt in Paris. Despite wins over the likes of Norway and a draw with France, the Egyptians are considered more manageable than the Danes.

Earlier in the day, Argentina bid farewell to Paris 2024 with another defeat, losing 34-27 to Egypt in Group B despite the return of star player Diego Simonet, who had missed three matches through injury.

The South Americans started strongly, but the Arabs levelled and then overtook them midway through the game, dominating both the scoreline and the game.

In the final fifteen minutes, the South Americans looked tired and made many mistakes, with Egypt, coached by Juan Carlos Pastor, clearly the better side. Hendawy finished the game with 15 saves and a save percentage of 36 per cent, while Ali Zein and Seif Elderaa were their top scorers with six goals each.

Sweden recorded their third win of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, and their biggest of this edition, when they defeated Japan 40-27 in a Group A match. It was the Scandinavians' biggest Olympic win since London 2012, when they beat Argentina by 16 goals and Great Britain by 22.
