Spain's men's and women's beach volleyball teams had a good day in the finals that were played throughout this Monday 5 August.

Men's and women's beach volleyball were among the highlights of Tuesday's 6 August schedule at the 2024 Paris Olympics. 

Among the matches that have caught the attention was the women's beach volleyball quarterfinal between Americans Sara Hughes and Kelly Cheng vs. Switzerland's Tanja Huberli and Nina Brunner. 

The Americans became the favourites at -135, while the Swiss were at +100 in the latest Olympic beach volleyball odds.

Huberli and Brunner came off a 23-21, 21-16 win over Liliana Fernandez Steiner and Paula Soria Gutierrez of Spain in the Round of 16, while Hughes and Cheng outlasted Italy's Valentina Gottardi and Marta Menegatti 21-18, 17-21, 15-12.

Now in today's match, Italy defended their position. The reigning VNL champions, who sent their full squad to the VNL, are now heading to the semifinals & will face Türkiye on August 8, and that's the same for USA, the Olympic champions who will now face the undefeated Brazil in the SF round.

In a men's beach volleyball quarterfinal, Germany's Nils Ehlers and Clemens Wickler faced Stefan Boermans and Yorick De Groot of the Netherlands. The Germans advanced with a 21-16, 21-17 Round of 16 win over Brazil's George Souto Maior Wanderley and Andre Loyola Stein last Sunday, and Boermans and De Groot experienced similar success that day in a 21-18, 21-16 win over Ondrej Perusic and David Schweiner of the Czech Republic. 



In the men's games, the quarterfinals were dominated by Team Germany this Tuesday 6 August, with C. Wickler and N. Ehlers winning 2 - 0 against the Netherlands while Sweden beat Brazil by the same score.

Spanish teams advanced on Monday

Spain's men's and women's beach volleyball teams had a good day in the finals that were played throughout this Monday 5 August. Both women’s Alvárez-Moreno and men’s Herrera-Gavira won, lamenting the public and the country about the chances of getting a medal in the coming days.

Spain joins Latvia, Canada or Brazil in the women's teams, and Norway, the United States, Italy or Qatar in the men's, while women from Germany, the Netherlands, the USA and Japan, and men from Poland, the US, Italy and Chile have been dismissed from the competition.



In the women's final eighth, the Latvian pair Tina-Anastasija defeated the German Muller-Tilman by 2-1; and the Spanish Alvárez and Moreno won 2-1 to the Dutch Stam and Schoon; the Canadian Melissa and Brandie beat 2-0 to the U.S. Nuss and Kloth. Also passed the Brazilian couple Ana Patricia-Duda (2-0 contra las japonesas Akiko-Ishii-).

In the men's last eight, the Spanish Herrera and Gavira defeated Poles Bryl and Losiak 2–0; and the Norwegian Mol-Sorum 2–1 to the Staten Evans and Budinger; and USA Partain-Benesh scored 2–2 against the Italians Cottafava and Nicolai. Finally, the Qatari Cherif-Amed played 2-0 against the Chilean Grimalt and Grimald.

After this, on 6 and 7 will be the quarterfinals the men's with Germans Gerehlers-Wickler taking on Dutch duo Boermans-Degroot and the Brazilians Evandro-Arthur up against the Swedes Ahman-Hellvig. 

In the women's, the Australian MariaFe-Clancy plays against the Swiss Esmee-Zoe; the USA Hughes-Cheng and the Swiss Huberli-Brunner. On 8 August, the semi-finals will be held, on 9 the women's teams will play for gold and bronze; and on 10 the women will play.
