The Chinese athlete put in a flawless performance, repeating her Tokyo 2020 success and giving her rivals no chance. China's Chen Yuxi, her synchronised diving partner, also took silver. Bronze went to Kim Mi Rae (PRK).

The spectacular nature of the event set the stage for high emotions in the women's 10m platform final. China was looking to maintain its dominance of the past few decades. The Asian giant has been on top of the podium at all the major championships. China has won seven gold medals at the Olympic Games from Seoul 1988 to Tokyo 2020. Quan Hongchan did not disappoint. She delivered a perfect performance with 425.60 points. Her compatriot Chen Yuxi took silver with 420.70 points and Kim Mi Rae (PRK) won bronze with 372.10 points.

Hongchan repeated her success of three years ago in Tokyo with a high degree of difficulty and perfect execution. At 17, she scored a perfect 10 on her first attempt to secure an undisputed victory.

Caeli McKay (Canada) was in contention for a podium finish with 364.50 points, but ultimately had to settle for an undesirable Olympic position. Gabriela Agúndez of Mexico finished fifth with 350.40 points.

Demonstrating their remarkable dominance, Hongchan's gold took China's total number of gold medals at Paris 2024 to five. China could break the record if they win three more golds in the remaining three events:the men's and women's 3m springboard and the men's 10m platform.

Hongchan's record at the Games could not be better. She has competed in two editions and won three gold medals: in the individual event at Tokyo 2020 and in both the individual and synchronised events (with Chen Yuxi) at Paris 2024.

She has won seven medals at the World Swimming Championships between 2022 and 2024 and two gold medals at the 2022 Asian Games. She is undoubtedly the queen of diving.

In the women's 10m platform synchronised diving, China's Quan Hongchan and Chen Yuxi had already won gold and silver in the individual competition. However, beyond the gold medal, it was their routine that captured the world's attention for its perfection. The synchronisation was so flawless that it left spectators in disbelief.

The world took to social media to praise the pair. They were back on the podium in the individual final. However, the Olympic champion's high standards led her to remark that "all the performances in the synchronised event were mediocre", according to ESPN.
