Women's beach volleyball favourites Brazil resolutely ended the Olympic hopes of their Latvian opponents in the women's quarter-finals Wednesday, continuing their unbeaten streak in a defiant Paris Games.

Ana Patricia Silva Ramos and Eduarda Santos Lisboa fought Latvian pair Tina Graudina and Anastasija Samoilova in a game which showcased their deserved reputation as world-class players.

The Brazilian duo initially struggled with errors, allowing their Latvian opponents to quickly claim the first six points. However, the top-seeded Brazilians soon found their rhythm, overtaking their rivals to win the first set. By the second set, it was clear who was in control, as the Brazilians secured a decisive 21-10 victory in just 32 minutes.

The Brazilian fans, clad in green and yellow, were ecstatic, waving flags and celebrating each point as if it were a gold medal win. After the match, Silva Ramos and Santos Lisboa ran around the stadium, posing for photos and high-fiving fans despite security's efforts to clear the area.

Silva Ramos and Santos Lisboa, who first teamed up in 2014 to win gold at the Youth Olympic Games, reunited after less successful outings with different partners at the Tokyo Games. They will face Tokyo 2020 silver medallists Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho del Solar from Australia in the semi-finals on Thursday at 20:00 CEST. Earlier in the day, Spain’s Daniela Alvarez Mendoza and Tania Moreno Matveeva competed against Canada’s dominant Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson.

Every point was fiercely contested as the score climbed, with fans on their feet as the Canadian pair clinched the final point for victory. Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson, wearing distinctive one-shoulder white bikinis and colourful reflective sunglasses, surpassed their Tokyo 2020 quarter-final performance. They will now face Switzerland's Tanja Hueberli and Nina Brunner in Thursday's earlier semi-final.

On Tuesday, the first two women’s quarter-finals were intensely fought, with Hueberli and Brunner eliminating the reigning world champions, US duo Sara Hughes and Kelly Cheng.

In the men’s draw, Qatar's Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan will compete against Sweden's David Ahman and Jonatan Hellvig, while Germany's Nils Ehlers and Clemens Wickler face Norway's Anders Mol and Christian Sorum.
