The women's field hockey semifinals were played today. Two of the favorites, Argentina and the Netherlands, followed by Belgium and China, faced each other at the Yves du Manoir Stadium.

The match between the Netherlands and Argentina was one of the most eagerly awaited in this category. Two historic teams in this discipline with a great track record: the Netherlands have been in the final of the Olympic Games consecutively since Athens 2004. They have won three golds and two silvers in five consecutive editions. On the other hand, Argentina also has a good number of medals, having won three beach medals and two bronze medals in its entire track record.

The match started evenly on both sides, having a first half where the score remained at zero. However, at the start of the second half, Luna Fokke opened the scoring in the 21st minute, after receiving a long ball over her head and beating Cristina Cosentina in the Argentine goal. Following this, Nunnink Laura scored in the 26th minute, making it even more difficult for the Argentine team.

Even so, Argentina had their chances to come back in the second half, but Valentina Raposo was unfortunate in her penalty corner kicks, eight of them without finding the net. In this way the game for the Argentines became very complicated and after the third goal by Jansen Yibbi, finally sentenced the match.

In this way the European team managed to maintain its streak of consecutive finals and return to fight for the gold medal. This is the sixth consecutive match in which the Argentine team lost to the Dutch in the Olympic Games: semifinals in Athens 2004, Beijing 2008 and Paris 2024, finals in London 2012 and Tokyo 2020, and quarterfinals in Rio 2016.

The second semifinal was played between China and Belgium in the afternoon at the same Yves-du-Manoir Stadium. Neither team has a gold medal in this category: China has a silver medal from the 2008 Olympics while Belgium has no medal in this discipline.

The game was very evenly matched during the first quarter, with neither country able to score. But going into the second half, China scored in the eighteenth minute to open the scoring. In this way, they began to lead the match although they were unlucky not to score more goals and ended the second half one goal up (1-0).

The Belgians did not lose hope and stayed alive throughout the third period, preventing China from extending the lead. However, they were not able to score any more goals during the third period. The fourth half looked like it was going to be the same, however, against all odds, Belgium scored a goal in the fifty-ninth minute. This gave them a miraculous equalizer to take the game to penalties.

Unfortunately, the effort was of little use as they ended up losing the penalty shootout round (2-3), allowing the Chinese to advance to the final. As a result, they will face the top favorites in the discipline on August 9 at 20:00 at the Yves du Manoir 1 stadium.
