In a dazzling evening held at the House of Istanbul in Paris, the Turkish capital revealed its bold plans for the 2027 European Games. This event was organized in close collaboration with the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and the Turkish Olympic Committee (TOC).

The House of Istanbul, located in the heart of Paris, served as a captivating showcase of Türkiye's rich culture, art, and sport. The event offered a fascinating glimpse into what the 2027 European Games have in store for spectators, athletes, and the citizens of Istanbul.

Among the highlighted exhibits were art presentations, culinary tastings, and a display of Türkiye's sports achievements, all designed to capture the essence of the city that will host the upcoming European Games. And not only showcasing Turkish culture, but also promising an innovative and memorable experience for the European continent.

Spyros Capralos, President of the European Olympic Committees (EOC), spared no praise for the TOC and the city of Istanbul. During his speech at the reception on 7 August, the EOC leader emphasized the significance of the event and the quality of the organizational display: "It is an honor to be at the House of Istanbul. We are confident that the TOC will deliver an European Games as spectacular as those in Paris for the Olympics. The sustainable model they have implemented promises to continue the success of Kraków-Małopolska 2023."

Capralos also highlighted the importance of sustainability in the planning of the Games. The Turkish capital strategy is based on utilizing and enhancing existing infrastructures, avoiding the construction of new permanent venues.

This approach not only reduces costs but also supports a commitment to environmental and financial sustainability. The model has been praised for its effectiveness during the Kraków-Małopolska 2023 European Games, which set a new standard for organizing international sporting events.

The 2023 European Games, held in Poland, were a resounding success. With the participation of 7,000 athletes from across Europe in 26 sports, the event not only provided a platform for high-level competition but also secured 118 direct qualification spots for the Paris 2024 Olympics. This success has set a precedent for Istanbul, which now aims to exceed those expectations with an even more innovative proposal.

Istanbul 2027 promises to be an event that transcends the traditional. With a focus on innovation, the 2027 European Games will include urban and emerging sports such as padel, teqball, and esports. These disciplines not only attract a young and diverse audience but also reflect the evolution of sport in the digital age. The inclusion of these sports is part of a broader effort to connect with new generations and keep the event relevant and engaging.

TOC President Prof. Dr. Uğur Erdener and Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu were key figures at the reception, emphasizing Türkiye's full support for the project. Erdener commented: "The European Games in Istanbul will offer a unique opportunity to experience our advanced sports infrastructures and the enthusiasm of our citizens. Together with our Metropolitan Municipality, the Turkish Olympic Committee will continue to build bridges of friendship and unite diverse cultures, in line with the universal values of sport."

Istanbul is a living testament to the enduring power of culture, history, and human achievement. We will ensure that the Games leave a positive and lasting legacy in our city and its people," said İmamoğlu.

The path to 2027 European Games looks promising. With the experience and commitment shown at the House of Istanbul, it is clear that the city is ready to deliver an event that will not only be a sporting spectacle but also a celebration of cultural diversity and European unity. This Games are set to be an opportunity to write a new chapter in the history of European sport, and Istanbul is ready to take on that challenge with enthusiasm and ambition.
