France and Norway are searching for gold in the women's handball final after winning against Sweden and Denmark on Thursday.

Norway-Denmark

Norway and Denmark had already seen each other face-to-face in the preliminary handball round, in the European finals and in the world semi-finals, and in all of them Norway came out victors.

Denmark tried to make it difficult, matching the game thanks to the push of goalkeeper Althea Reinhard and Henny Reistad, player of the year in 2023, eventually Norway took control towards the end of the first half.

The Danish women sought to return to a final for the first time since Athens 2004, but her attack failed in the second half, Norway came to overtake its rival by seven goals. Denmark fought to the end despite the result being virtually decided, which remained at 25:21, its second victory in 10 days against Denmark at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

Norway is now in the final of the Olympic Games for the fourth time in its history. Denmark will try to secure the bronze, when facing Sweden.

France-Sweden

The host of the Games gave everything to be able to defeat Sweden by 31-28, needing the extra time. Both teams were seen for the third time in a row in a semi-final of an international competition, and it was the third loss for Sweden who struggled in this game with a shooting efficiency of 46%.

The hosts had a balance of 4:2 after 14 minutes, but then Sweden scored five goals in in just four minutes and 42 seconds, and took a 7:4 advantage. France immediately retreated, but Sweden continued to fight.

France only had the last 30 minutes to save the game, and they had it difficult. In the end, they managed to reduce the distance to a single point. The fight continued and they ended up in par, so it was necessary to resort to the extra time.

France has won three of the four semi-finals played at the Olympic Games and has qualified for the gold medal for the third time in a row, while Sweden has lost its second semi-final and heads to the Bronze Medal for the second consecutive time, after Tokyo 2020.
