After participating in five Olympic Games and winning five medals, Britain's Tom Daley has decided to retire. His partner Noah Williams, with whom he won the silver medal at Paris 2024 in the 10m synchronised diving, says he will miss him, as will all the fans.

Tom Daley was one of Britain's flag-bearers at the Opening Ceremony of the Paris Games, as he took to the stage on the River Seine. It was recognition of a successful career. It was recognition that he was one of the most important sportsmen in his country's history at the Olympic Games.

This is the fourth time in her career that she has gone to the Olympic Games and won a medal. In Paris it was in a competition where gold was impossible, because China has won them all, all eight. In total, Daley has one gold, one silver and three bronze medals. He also has eight medals (four golds) in World Championships and another eight (five golds) in European Championships.

Now, he leaves a void for his national team and for the discipline of springboard diving. Noah Williams is aware of this. He took the opportunity to talk about his team-mate in an interview with BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast.

Williams recognises Daley as an athlete, but also as an icon. He says he is the jumper who has transcended the sport the most. Daley's social side is of great value to his partner. As an activist for the LGBTI community, and as someone who has inspired many people to take up trampoline jumping or sport in general.

Williams recalls that at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Daley pointed out the difficulties of athletes who speak openly about their sexual status and come from countries where homosexuality is illegal. That is what his compatriot believes it means to transcend a sport.

Williams also talks about Daley's retirement at the age of 30. It's something that many fans find strange, but Williams thinks it's an advanced age for trampoline jumping.

Williams himself, who is 24 and has just won two medals in Paris, silver with Daley and an individual bronze in the 10m springboard, is unsure about his professional future. He thinks about the mental toll of competition and the amount of time he spends away from his family each year. He is not sure he will be in Los Angeles in 2028. It's something he's going to mull over in the coming months.

Williams recalls that Daley retired after the Tokyo 2020 Games. In the end, his son convinced him to come back. That's why we've seen him in Paris having success again. Williams believes he is not too old to jump. Now he is entering a new phase, without his great partner by his side.
