The basketball fans at the 2024 Olympics put on an incredible show, showing up in record-breaking numbers and setting a new Olympic attendance milestone.

A total of 1,078,319 spectators attended the Men's and Women's Basketball Tournaments at Paris 2024, surpassing the previous record of 1,068,032 set at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996. Notably, the Final Phase of the Atlanta games was held in the massive SuperDome, which seated over 30,000.

Despite hosting only 52 games, 40 fewer than in Atlanta 28 years ago, the Paris Olympics achieved this impressive feat, averaging 20,737 fans per game. Attendance was nearly equal between the Men's games, with 21,711 on average, and the Women's games, with 19,763.

The crowds at Lille's Pierre Mauroy Stadium set an impressive tone during the first nine days of the games. Fans proudly displayed their national colors, giving their heroes plenty of motivation to fight. A total of 876,686 spectators attended the 36 men's and women's games at the transformed football stadium in Lille, filling 91.8% of its capacity.

The 18 men's games attracted 466,053 fans, with an average of 25,983 per game, representing 94.6% of the 27,360-seat capacity. The 18 women's games drew 410,633 spectators, averaging 22,813 per game, or 83.4% of capacity.

This event set a new benchmark for women's basketball in Europe, with a record attendance for a women's game on the continent. The Group Phase surpassed all previous events in Europe, with the record for a women's game now standing at 27,193, achieved during the final game in Lille between host nation France and Australia.

Paris' Bercy Arena then took over from Lille, comfortably securing record attendance with its 13,000-seat capacity. Every game at Bercy saw between 11,852 and 12,454 fans, resulting in a total attendance of 201,633 - including the final which saw the men's USA side secure gold.

Additionally, the seven days of action at the 3x3 basketball tournament at Place de la Concorde were completely sold out, with 4,000 spectators per session, totalling 72,000 attendees. This marked the first time 3x3 basketball was played at the Olympics in front of a live audience.
