Team GB's Rosie Eccles, the boxer who was left in tears after a controversial defeat to Poland's Aneta Rygielska in the women's 66kg division, revealed Andy Murray gave her a stunning gift at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Eccles revealed to talkSPORT.com that Murray sorted her tickets to see his dramatic doubles match with partner Dan Evans against Belgium at Roland Garros live.

"I was right at the front and it was incredible to watch it live. They fought like hell to win. It was one of the experiences from the Olympics that I will never forget it was amazing,” she added about Muray and Evan’s thrilling tie-break against Belgian pair Sander Gille and Joran Vliegen.

The Welsh boxer said she admired the tennis star and saw similarities between them.

"But Andy I obviously met him, he has had things similar to myself in terms of lots of setbacks and lots of injuries. He fights for every point and I am very similar in the ring,” Eccles said in her exclusive interview with talkSPORT.com.

Before the Paris Olympics, Eccles mentioned how she considered Murray a role model as she prepared to compete in the Games.

"I’m not someone who has many role models but he is definitely one. His grit and determination is really inspiring… I’ve always looked up to his mentality. I think a lot about how strong he is to have come back from what he has been through," the Commonwealth champion said.

Now, more than ever, the boxer must stay strong after yet another disjappointmenting Olympics. Eccles missed the Tokyo Games because of illness and injury. In Paris, she would be eliminated after a controversial 3-2 split decision which has left not just spectators, but even former boxers puzzled.

Rygielska had a point deducted for holding and the Canadian judge gave the contest to Eccles by a four-point margin.

"A boxer knows when they have won a fight,” Eccles tearfully said afterwards. “I knew I had won the fight so I am really, really shocked. It feels as if I am in a dream right now, but not a great one."
