Belgrade has a rich history in boxing, having hosted two IBA Men's World Boxing Championships, in 1978 and 2021.

IBA Secretary General and CEO Chris Roberts OBE stressed that the calendar change was made to give athletes an equal chance of success: '2024 has been a busy year for our boxers so far and after several government consultations we have decided to hold both the men's and women's events in 2025 to give athletes a fair chance and an equal opportunity to win lucrative prize money'.

'Our athletes are at the heart of everything we do and everything we do is for their benefit,' Roberts stressed.

The host nation for the 2025 Men's World Boxing Championships is not confirmed as there are several nations bidding to host the Championships. According to the IBA, the decision on the host nation is to be made by the end of 2024.
