Cameron Norrie has announced on his social media that he is withdrawing from the US Open after failing to fully recover from the forearm injury that forced him to withdraw from the men’s singles event at the Paris 2024 Olympics. The Briton has struggled to find his form this season.

Norrie posted a brief statement on his Instagram account announcing his withdrawal and expressing his desire to return to competition. “I have been working hard to get my body to full health, unfortunately my forearm injury is not recovering as soon as I would have hoped. Therefore, I will not be able to compete in this year’s US Open. I’ll take some rest and recharge. Can’t wait to get back to competing like a dog.”

The news comes just over a week before the start of the US Open, the final Grand Slam of the year. In response, The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), the national governing body of tennis in Great Britain, expressed their support for the player with a brief message on X. “Hope to see you back on court soon.” Argentine Francisco Comesana will take his place in the tournament's main draw.

Currently ranked 47th in the ATP rankings, Norrie has experienced a couple of significant absences this season. He was first forced to withdraw from the Olympic event, where he was set to face Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor in the first round, and recently encountered a similar situation, this time against Marcos Girón, at the Canadian Masters.

Norrie’s withdrawal adds to the list of injury-related disruptions facing British tennis this season. Andy Murray retired from the professional circuit after the Olympics, following a season marked by a severe ankle injury sustained in March, as well as a back problem that affected his performance at Queen's.

Given these circumstances, British representation in the men’s singles draw at Flushing Meadows will rest on Dan Evans, who is about to start at the Winston-Salem Open, and Jack Draper, who has qualified for the quarter-finals in Cincinnati.

Norrie’s performance in 2023 saw him claim an ATP Tour title, but this year has been less fruitful. He came close to defending his title at the ATP 500 event in Rio, but was eliminated in the semi-finals by Mariano Navone. At Wimbledon earlier this summer, Norrie reached the third round, where he was defeated by Alexander Zverev after a gruelling match.
