Shanon Biles, star gymnast Simone Biles's estranged mother, says the Olympian has yet to offer her financial assistance as she struggles to make ends meet as a cashier. The gymnast is reportedly sitting on a $25 million (€22.6 million) fortune while her birth mother lives close to the poverty line.

"I would like to make amends with Simone personally, I would just ask her to forgive me. Can we move forward? Don't judge me on my past. Let's move forward," Shanon told The Daily Mail in an exclusive interview.

The 52-year-old has been estranged from her daughter Simone, and her three other children Adria, Tevin, and Ashley, for over twenty years. During her battle with drug and alcohol abuse, Shanon lost her parental rights to her children, who first went into foster care before being adopted by relatives.

Simone, together with her sister Aria, who is also a gymnast, was adopted by her grandparents Ronald, and Nellie Biles. Simone’s adoptive parents decided it was better for the girls to gain some distance from their mother as she battled addiction.

"When we signed the (adoption) papers it was like my dad flipped a switch on me – no communication, don’t call, and don’t visit. That’s how it was in the beginning," Shanon said.

Now, decades later, Shanon is seeking forgiveness and is still coming to terms with giving up her children for adoption all those years ago. Simone’s mother stated she has recovered from her addictions and is sober.

"There's a way [to recovery]. You have to learn to stay away from people, places and things. Change your routine and live your life. Live your best life. I’m not the person I used to be. I'm okay, today. I'm a loving person. I'd give you the shirt off my back. I'm very different from what I've been portrayed," Shanon revealed.

However, Shanon has racked up a string of debts and even filed for bankruptcy back in 2018. She’s also been to court 36 times for various misdemeanours and criminal cases. Since 2022, Shanon has stayed out of trouble and has been working as a cashier, but she still struggles financially.

A far cry from how her daughter has been living. Now, an accomplished Olympic athlete, Simone hasn't been shy about showing off what her prodigious talent has brought her.

Aside from her gold and silver medals, she’s posted about shopping sprees, designer bags, and a luxury Range Rover on her social media. Her rise to fame, and financial bracket, certainly has not escaped Shanon’s attention. "Of course, I would accept her help. She hasn’t (offered) it so far. I’m here. I’m okay," Shanon said.
