An incredible display of precision, skill and strategy is in store when Asian Paralympic and World Champions take to the archery field at the picturesque Esplanade des Invalides in Paris on 29 August. Para archery was one of the eight Paralympic sports at the first Games in Rome in 1960.

Three years ago, China won four of the gold medals, with Iran, the Czech Republic, Great Britain, the United States and the Russian Olympic Committee taking the remaining five. The Asian country also won one silver and three bronze medals. The ranking round starts the Para archery action with the first medal events scheduled for August 31w with around 140 athletes vying for the nine gold medals on offer over eight days.

In the men's individual recurve, Iran's Rio 2016 champion and two-time Asian Para Games champion Gholamreza Rahimi and 2023 World Championships medallist Mohammad Reza Arab Ameri will be looking to get their nation back on the medal trail after their recent campaigns.

China's Wu Chunyan and Wu Yang will carry Asia's hopes in the women's individual recurve event after Iran's three-time Paralympic champion Zahra Nemati skipped the Games. Chunyan is a four-time Paralympic medallist and will be looking for her first individual gold in Paris after her three golds at the 2023 World Championships, while Yang is a World and Asian Para Games medallist.

India has emerged in the compound events over the past year, with armless Sheetal Devi looking to shine in her Paralympics debut. She rose to prominence after extraordinary performances at the 2023 World Championships and the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Para Games, winning two gold medals. Sarita and Rakesh Kumar also hope for a good showing in the mixed team event. The duo are reigning world champions and Hangzhou 2022 winners.

In the W1 category, two-time Paralympic champion Chen Minyi and reigning world champion Zhang Lu from China will be among the favourites for the podium in the women's event. Meanwhile, Zhang Tianxin and Han Guifei will be hoping to keep the momentum going in the men's W1 after their golden show at the Asian Para Games.

South Korea's Kim Ok-Geum and Park Hong-jo will also be the ones to watch after their performances at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Para Games. Ok-geum already has a Paralympic silver from Rio 2016, along with Koo Dong-sub. New Asian Paralympic Committee member Bangladesh will make its debut, with their hopes pinned on Joma Akter in the women's singles. She won the country's first ever Paralympic quota at the final qualifier in Dubai.
