Christophe Massina was one of the coaches of the French national team at the Paris 2024 judo competition. Massina, 50, has been with the French Judo Federation for 20 years. He took charge of the French U23 women's team in 2004 and has since been assisting the senior team.

He was a member of the coaching team at Athens 2004. After the London 2012 Olympic Games, Massina started to work with the women's elite team and stayed with them for four years. After Rio, he became coach of the elite men's team and then, in March 2022, he became head coach of the elite women's team.

For the second time in a row, the French national team won Olympic gold in the mixed team event. “I don’t know if it could be better! I need a good holiday after this; it’s necessary after all this work and solving and effort," Massina told IJF.org.

Massina coached Emilie Andeol when she won Olympic gold at Rio 2016. He was with the national team when they won the mixed team event at Tokyo 2020. And now another gold medal in a team event. "We have finished with a team gold and so many great emotions. This is a great medal to win again against the Japanese team."

Although Massina had a good junior career, he never succeeded at the senior individual level. He was an important part of the French men's judo team that won European and World Championship medals in team events before becoming a coach in 2024. Now he ends his career with the French national team with another important victory.

"We have talked about this final for the entire three year cycle. In the moment before the end, maybe I thought that it was over but then Joan Gaba did what he did, against Abe of all people, and Clarisse Agbegnenou then drew the match level with her win.

“I talked to the team in the warm-up and said maybe she, Clarisse, would be ‘the finish girl’ for us and we would really need her. She did it in Tokyo against Arai and now again here against Takaichi. I stop my career with this! I’m happy to move on, I’m complete thanks to them and this,” concluded Massina.
