Dr. Dre, the legendary rapper and music producer, has revealed his ambition to compete in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, the 59-year-old artist expressed his serious intent to represent the United States in archery, a sport he first took up during secondary school.

Dre’s Olympic aspirations might come as a surprise to many, but the artist assured fans that he is fully committed to this goal. "I'm starting to prepare for the 2028 Olympics," Dre stated, explaining that he rediscovered his passion for archery after his son gifted him a bow and arrow set for Father's Day. Since then, he has set up a practice area at home and now trains regularly.

Dre recalled that he was part of his school’s archery team in his youth, although he had set the sport aside for many years. However, he is now practising at a distance of 90 feet, surpassing the Olympic qualification requirement of 77 feet, and has hired a coach to help refine his skills.

The artist’s confidence is unwavering. "Wouldn't it be amazing to win a gold medal, especially with the Games being here in Los Angeles? I feel like I can achieve anything." This determination has characterised his career, both in music and now, potentially, in sport.

In addition to his Olympic aspirations, Dre also made headlines for his performance at the closing ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics. Teaming up with his long-time collaborator Snoop Dogg, Dre performed ‘The Next Episode’ during the handover to Los Angeles, marking the start of the promotional campaign for the next Summer Games. The pre-recorded performance was kept under tight wraps, something Dre found impressive: "It's amazing they managed to keep it a secret in this age of social media."

Reflecting on the experience, Dre acknowledged Snoop Dogg’s star power, "When we get on stage, Snoop is the superstar. I'm the co-star. It’s different when we’re in the studio; there, I'm the captain, but when we step out, Snoop is the man."

Dre also weighed in on the decision to exclude breakdancing from future Olympic Games. The sport, which debuted in Paris 2024, sparked controversy, particularly following the performance of Australian dancer Raygun. Dre didn’t hide his frustration, stating, "There are so many great breakdancers; I don’t understand why they chose that person to represent the sport. It was funny, but what on earth? There are amazing breakdancers right now, and I don’t get how this happened."

As the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics approach, Dre’s journey from music icon to aspiring Olympian serves as a powerful reminder of his relentless drive to explore new frontiers. Whether on stage or in the archery field, Dre’s determination and passion continue to inspire those who follow his extraordinary career.
