NFL stars have been warned that they won't walk into the Team USA Flag Football squad for the Los Angeles Olympic Games after several celebrity players and a commercial featuring Jalen Hurts hinted at their inclusion.

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games are now behind us and after an exhilarating two weeks, all eyes are turning to the next summer games which will be held in Los Angeles in 2028.

There will be new sports debuting at LA28 including lacrosse, baseball, squash, and flag football. When it comes to the latter, the USA teams have dominated the IFAF Flag Football World Championships with the men's team winning five of the last six finals and the USA women's team winners of the last two.

While the NFL has helped campaign for flag football to be integrated into the Olympic Games programme for many years, NFL superstars have now been warned that they are far from guaranteed a place in the Team USA Flag Football team at the LA 2028 Olympics.

It comes after official NFL accounts released a commercial this summer announcing flag football's inclusion in the LA28 Olympic Games by showing Jalen Hurts of the Philadelphia Eagles lighting the Olympic torch by throwing a lit American football.

Hurts is one of several NFL signal callers to have expressed a desire to feature at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games and not all are thrilled with their potential inclusion.

Team USA Flag Football quarterback Darrell Doucette recently spoke out warning NFL players that their celebrity status won't mean that they're automatically given a spot on the team.

“We just don’t think they’re going to be able to walk on the field and make the Olympic team because of the name, right?” said Doucette.

"I think it's disrespectful that they just automatically assume that they're able to just join the Olympic team because of the person that they are - they didn't help grow this game to get to the Olympics."

35-year-old Doucette, who has been instrumental to the recent success of Team USA's men's flag football team, said he took issue with the NFL teaser as Hurts isn't currently on the roster.

"Give the guys who helped this game get to where it's at their respect," said Doucette. "It's not that we need these guys because we're already great with who we have."

Doucette and Team USA will travel to Finland for the IFAF Flag Football World Championship which kicks off on August 27. The USA will hope to better 31 other countries and extend its recent domination of the sport.
