Logo to celebrate the Paris Paralympics and the transition to the LA28 Games

The personalised Paralympic 'A' is the 50th design in the campaign by the Californian metropolis, which will take over from Paris and join the French capital in the exclusive club of host cities, both now having hosted the Olympic Games three times.

Amid a campaign to capture the essence and captivating stories of Angelenos, athletes, and artists, who will reconnect with the Games 44 years later, the organising committee has unveiled fifty emblems designed to showcase everything from the beauty to the diversity of Southern California. The latest to be revealed, leaving fans in awe, is the Paralympic emblem.

This emblem has its own significance, commemorating the moment when the Paralympic flag will be handed over from Paris to Los Angeles when the curtain falls on the Games on 8 September. Notably, this marks a historic moment as Hollywood will host the Paralympic Games for the first time.

The Paralympics have shared the stage with the Summer Olympics since 1960, 1964, and permanently from 1988 onwards. This means that in 1984, four decades ago, when the five rings last reflected in Los Angeles, the privilege of sharing the location with the Paralympic Games was absent.

“It will be a historic moment when the Paralympic flag is handed over to Los Angeles on the world stage in September, marking the first time that Los Angeles becomes the next host city for the Paralympic Games,” said Amy Gleeson, Chief Marketing Officer of LA28, in a recent interview. “To honour this milestone, we are unveiling a Paralympic Handover emblem, and we look forward to an incredible handover celebration that is authentic to the LA28 Games,” the expert enthusiastically added.

With a nod to the Olympic Handover 'A' unveiled on 22 July, showcasing the passing of the flag from Paris to Los Angeles, the Paralympic emblem has its own unique look to commemorate the moment when the Paralympic flag will be handed over during the Closing Ceremony.

This series of emblems is a brilliant idea, as it helps distinguish itself with its dynamic and ever-evolving "A", a vibrant contrast to the static elements of the "L", "2", and "8" that form the foundation of the design. This "A" not only captures the essence of a city known for its creativity and self-expression but is also designed to adapt to the digital age, continually evolving on the road to 2028.

As Los Angeles prepares for its third time hosting the Olympics but its first time hosting the Paralympic Games, the city will become a global gathering point for the world’s top athletes. The LA28 Games, run by a non-profit organisation, will be an unprecedented sporting spectacle, entirely funded by private partners and contributions from the International Olympic Committee.
