Paracanoe: Six nations to make Paralympic debut at Paris 2024. ICF

A total of six nations will make their Paralympic debut in Paracanoe at the upcoming Paralympic Games as the International Canoe Federation (ICF) announced the completion of the quota allocation process for Paris 2024.

In total, 100 athletes representing 30 nations from all five continents will compete at Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, including Algeria, Egypt, South Korea, Senegal, Serbia and Thailand, who will be competing in the sport for the first time, informed the ICF.

Gender parity has been ensured with 50 female and 50 male paddlers ready to grace the Paralympic stage with five men's and five women's events - the largest ever Paracanoe programme at a Paralympic Games. Medals will be up for grabs in six kayak and four va'a events, with the women's VL3 included for the first time to ensure gender equality.

The 30 countries include 12 from Europe, eight from Asia, five from the Americas, three from Africa and two from Oceania. After topping the paracanoe medals table at Tokyo 2020, Great Britain will arrive in Paris with the largest delegation after winning nine quotas. Brazil and Italy are tied for the second largest quota with eight each.

Spain, Hungary and Uzbekistan have six places each, while China and Ukraine both have five. Hosts France has four entries, as do India and Japan, while Australia, Canada, Germany and Poland have three each.

Argentina, Iran, Israel, Kazakhstan, New Zealand, Portugal, Thailand and the USA will each send two paddlers to Paris. Algeria, Austria, Chile, Egypt, South Korea, Senegal and Serbia will also be represented with one quota each.

John Edwards, Chair of the ICF Paracanoe Committee, said: "This is an exciting time for our sport as paddlers make their final preparations for the Paralympic Games. I'm delighted to see so many nations, particularly from Africa and Asia, receiving Paracanoe quotas for the first time.

"This is the result of the Paracanoe Development Programme which has focused on these regions. We will have our largest Paralympic programme with 10 events and our largest number of athletes with 100 ready to compete in Paris. I am looking forward to seeing highly competitive races in front of fantastic crowds over the three days of competition."

Paris 2024 will be the third consecutive Paralympic Games for Paracanoe, following successful appearances at Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020. The competition will be held from 6 to 8 September, with races taking place at the Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium.
