Julio Cesar La Cruz will headline Cuba's first IBA Champions' Night Havana as he seeks the IBA Pro World title at -92kg against Uzbekistan's Madiyar Saydrakhimov on 27 August. The event marks 50 years since the first IBA World Boxing Championships were held in the Cuban capital.

The two-time Olympic champion and five-time IBA World Boxing Championships gold medallist is regarded as one of the greatest boxers of his generation and has recently turned professional with an unbeaten record to date.

Born in Camagüey in 1995, 'The Shadow' won the light heavyweight gold medal at Rio 2016 after beating Kazakhstan's Adilbek Niyazymbetov 3-0 in the final. He returned to the Olympics five years later to repeat his success in the heavyweight division, beating by 5-0 Muslim Gadzhimagomedov of the Russian Olympic Committee 5-0.

However, the París 2024 Olympic Games didn't go well for the two-time Olympic champion, who lost in the first round (eighth final) to Cuban-born Loren Alfonso, who now fights for Azerbaijan. The now Asian completed an amazing tournament to become the new Olympic heavyweight champion with a victory in the final against another Cuban, Emmanuel Reyes Pla, who is now Spanish.

Cuban Arlen Lopez will face Dominican Luis Antonio Tejada in the 80kg division after his opponent, Aliaksei Alfiorau of Belarus, withdrew due to injury. Fresh from an Olympic bronze medal in Paris to add to his two Olympic titles, Lopez returns home to be crowned the IBA champion with a professional record of 3-0. Tejada will be looking to avenge his IBA Champions' Night defeat to Kazakhstan's Bekzad Nurdauletov in Almaty in April.

Roniel Iglesias, another two-time Olympic champion from Cuba, will face Armenia's Gurgen Madoyan in a 67kg clash. Iglesias will be looking for redemption after losing to Mexico's Marco Verde at the last IBA Champions' Night in Aguascalientes, having previously beaten Kazakhstan's Dulat Bekbauov at that event.

Just two weeks after winning the Olympic gold in Paris, Erislandy Alvarez will take on Colombia's Jose Munoz (16-3) in a rankings clash at 63.5kg, while three-time world champion Lazaro Alvarez will take on Uzbekistan's Mujibillo Tursunov (4-0). At -57kg, World Championship silver medallist Saidel Horta, will open the event at -57kg against Russia's Ruslan Belousov, who is unbeaten in four professional fights to date.
